Audrey Evans Cooper
Born May 4 , 1919 , in Hazelhurst , Georgia , Audrey was the second of four children born to Ruby Inez Duggar and Delaniel L. Evans. A longtime resident of Highlands, North Carolina , she died on February 5 , 2009 , in Clayton , Georgia .
Audrey graduated from the University of Georgia in May of 1940 , and on June 19 , 1941 , she was married to another graduate of the University of Georgia , Alva H. Cooper Jr. , of Augusta , Georgia . During their fifty – four years of marriage, Audrey and Alva lived in Atlanta, Birmingham , Ala. , Jacksonville , Fla. , Jackson , Miss. , and New Orleans , La., during Alva’s career with AT&T and later Bell South .
Surviving Audrey are her two sons and one daughter , four grandsons and two great-grandchildren . These surviving family members are: * A. Heywood Cooper III of Houston , Texas; his son Allen and daughter-in-law , Andrea, of Powell , Wyoming, and their children Holden and Hadley; * Jonathan M. Cooper and his wife Deborah of Flower Mound and New Braunfels, Texas their sons Colin and daughter-in-law Tessa , of Austin, Texas ; Reed a college student in Huntsville , Texas , and Aaron, also a college student in Lubbock ,Texas;and* Merry Cooper Vickery and her husband Paul , of Fredericksburg , Texas. *Audrey’s surviving brother is Malcolm D. Evans and his wife Jenny, of Corpus Christi , Texas .
Burial will be on Tuesday the 17th of February, 2009 , at Westover Memorial Cemetery in Augusta , Georgia , where Audrey will be interred alongside her husband .
Essential to Audrey’s faith in Christ was her love and study of the Bible and active participation in adult sunday school classes at the different churches where she lived . She felt priviledged to have taught adult sunday school classes at St. Charles Presbyterian Church in New Orleans , Louisiana .
