Charles Wade Thurmond 85, Rabun Gap, GA


Charles Wade Thurmond, 85, of Rabun Gap, GA., husband of Ruth Wall Thurmond died Monday, June 16, 2008 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Born November 16, 1922 in White County he was a son of the late John William and Bertha Smith Thurmond. He was Master Plumber and Electrician and a member of the Georgia Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indian Tribe, he was a member of the Wolffork Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Wall Thurmond of the home; a son and daughter-in-law Charles C. and Emma Sue Thurmond of Rabun Gap, GA; one brother Pledger Thurmond of Rabun Gap, GA; two grandchildren Chris and Eric Thurmond; four great grandchildren Emily, Michael, Amy and Noah Thurmond.
He was preceded in death by a grandson John Matthew Thurmond, a great grandson Casey Thurmond; brothers Riley, Clarence, and Robert H. Thurmond; sisters Pauline Thurmond, Ione Dickerson and Eloise Abernathy.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from the Wolffork Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Greer and Rev. Richard Daley officiating. Burial will follow in the Wolffork Baptist Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 1 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 to lie in state until the funeral hour.
The family is at the home on Wolffork Road and will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Hunter Funeral Home.
