Edith Elliott Cannon 90, Tiger, GA


Edith Elliott Cannon, 90, of Tiger, died Sunday June 15, 2008 in Mountain Lakes Medical Center.
Born January 18, 1918 in Rabun County she was a daughter of the late Elisha S. and Hattie H. Elliott. She worked at Burlington Industries and was affectionately known as “Granny Cannon.” She was a life long member of Tiger Presbyterian Church (70 Years Plus) a member of the W.O.C. at her church and was a Sunday School Treasurer for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tiger Home Makers Club and the Rabun County Homemakers Council where she served as Chaplin. She loved working with the Tiger Elementary School PTA and was a grade mother for all of her children. She was an avid gardener and quilt maker and shared her flowers with many people.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Robert M. Cannon; a daughter Elaine Barton; sisters Mildred Stroud and Ellen Thompson; brothers J.C. Elliott and R.E. Elliott, Marvin Elliott and Arris Elliott; sisters Bertha Watts, Geletia Bramlett, Beatrice Baker, Myrtle Baker and Thursa Carnes.
Survivors include: One daughter and son-in-law Judith and Doug Nix of Tiger, GA, one son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Nita Cannon of Marietta, GA, one affectionately adopted daughter Shirley Irvin of Clermont, GA, one sister Rose O’Neal of Tiger, GA. Six grandchildren Tim Nix, Cindi N. Brooks, Chris Nix, Geoffrey Barton, Gregory Cannon and Wesley Cannon. Five great grand daughters Alexandria Brooks, Kodi Nix, Elizabeth Nix, Abigail Nix, and Anna Elaine Cannon. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Rabun Memory Park Cemetery following visitation at Hunter Funeral Home from 1 until 2 PM with the Rev. John Gipson and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating.
The family is the home of her daughter and son-in-law Judy and Doug Nix, Bridge Creek Road, Tiger, GA.
