Thelma Elizabeth Shirley Smith, 73 of Lakemont, GA., died Friday evening September 5, 2008 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Born in Rabun County, July 28, 1935. She was the daughter of the late John D. Shirley and Mary Holcomb Shirley. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Battle Branch Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Roland S. Smith of Lakemont, GA. One son Dewey Smith of Cornelia, GA. One daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Terry Bleckley of Clayton, GA. Three brothers- Alfred Shirley, Dewey Shirley, and Dale Shirley all of Lakemont, GA. Four sisters- Evelyn Queen of Macon, GA., Jean Garrett of Mt. Airy, GA., Ellie Mullikins of Walhalla, SC., and Genell Dryman of Clarkesville, GA. Two granddaughters- Jessica Griffin and her husband, Matthew of Tiger, GA. and Leslie Bleckley of Clayton, GA. One Great Granddaughter- Madison Griffin of Tiger, GA. A host of nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday September 8, 2008 at the Battle Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Cannon and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Wolf Creek Cemetery.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Sunday September 7, 2008. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM Monday September 8, 2008 to Lie in State.
The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Terry Bleckley on John Lane in the Warwoman Community, in Clayton.
