Allen Norris McLeroy

October 15, 1938 — March 13, 2024

Sky Valley, GA

Allen Norris McLeroy, 85, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, surrounded by loved ones as the Chaplain prayed him through the transition into eternity and into the arms of Jesus. He was the first-born to the late Alexander Norris and Allie McLeroy October 15, 1938 in Putnam County, Georgia. The family moved to Warner Robins, Georgia in 1943, where he grew up and graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1956.

Allen worked hard at everything he did, and lived a colorful and very full life. He had various jobs until he joined the Army and served honorably from 1961 – 1967. After the Army, he excelled at Robins Air Force Base as a civilian while continuing his education. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia College in 1975. He later transferred to Maxwell AFB in Alabama until his retirement.

Upon his retirement, Allen found a new home in Sky Valley, Georgia, and fell in love with the area. He and first wife built a beautiful home with a view. He also found another home in Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church, and the people there became his second family. His pastor and friend, Don Barber, walked him through good times and hard times, and never failed to “be there” for Allen.

He was an avid hunter, and took up skeet shooting for sport and to improve his aim. He excelled at that also, as he soon was ranked within the Top 100 Skeet Shooters in the United States. The quail didn’t stand a chance. He also hunted pheasant, turkey, and big game, and has many trophies to document his success. He hunted with family and many friends, but his favorite hunting partner was his late wife, Linda, who shared his passion. He declared that Linda “taught him to love”, and their partnership in life blessed him, mellowed him, and made him a better man.

Tragically, Allen was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bobbie; his infant son, Alexander Norris McLeroy II; his step-daughter, DeDee; his nephew, Keith; and his niece, Theresa.

Left to treasure his memory are his brother, Marcus G McLeroy (Liz), sisters Sharon Mullis and Wanda Jarzynka (Don), Linda’s son, Brian Lawley, who Allen claimed as his own. His beloved black Pomeranian, “Bear” will pine him, and will carry his memory for a lifetime. He will also be greatly missed by his nephews William, Lee, David, Robert, Lance, and Chad, who shared a special bond with his Uncle Allen. Many special friends will be remembering him with a grin and sharing stories of him for years to come.

A short visitation will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, March 23 at Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church, followed by worship and a celebration of Allen’s life at 1:00.
