Barbara Jean Burrell

Barbara Jean Burrell, 77, of Rabun Gap, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

She was born on July 10, 1949, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Luther Snyder and Ollie Mae Chastain Snyder. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, William Harold Burrell.

Barbara was a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church. She enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, including watching and caring for hummingbirds, crocheting, reading, crafting, and listening to her favorite music by Elvis Presley.

Barbara dedicated 50 years of her life to nursing, a profession that was truly her calling. She cared deeply for each of her patients and was loved and respected by those she cared for, as well as the doctors she worked alongside. Her knowledge, compassion, and dedication earned her the affectionate nickname “Dr. Burrell” among the doctors and patients she worked with. She was known for her exceptional care, as well as the kindness and warmth she brought to those around her.

She is survived by her four children: Barbara Ann Burrell, Janie Sunshine Holly Burrell, Amanda Elizabeth Burrell, and Chase Burrell; grandchildren, Noah William Hedden and Nova Sayra Star Harkins; close family friend, Bobbie Littrell; her cat, Houdini; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Gravley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
