David Roy Nichols 80, Gastonia , North Carolina


David Roy Nichols , 80 of 3411 Beatty Road , went home to be with the lord on Feb. 16 , 2009 at Gaston Memorial Hospital .
He was born April 8 , 1928 in Towns County,Ga. to the late David Elisha and Bessie Owens Nichols. He was preceded in death by brothers , Ralph Nichols and Ray Nichols ; sisters , Ora Denton , Lottie Daniel , Mae Rogers and Margie Guffie.
Roy was a WWII Army Veteran , member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Carolina and a retired truck driver of 40 yrs. working with Akers Motor Lines before retiring from Consolidate Freight-ways.
Survivors include his wife of 55 yrs., Bobbie Dean Rankin Nichols ; son, Butch and wife Dana R. Bynum of Gastonia; daughters,Kathy and husband Robbie Simpson and Jean Ann Nichols , all of Gastonia ; brother, Robert and wife Aileen Nichols of Belmont; grandchildren , Amy and Greg Brooks , Shelley and Jason Rhodes , Chad and Heather Simpson , Todd Simpson , Amanda Kannon,Brandon Mcdonald; great-grandchildren , Daniel and Wyatt Brooks , Victoria Kannon.
Funeral Services will be 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at Withers and Whisenant Chapel with the Rev.James Drennan officiating . Family will recieve friends 6 to 7:30 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home .
Interment will be Thursday Feb.19 , 2009 in the Tate City Cemetery. Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home in Gastonia , North Carolina in charge of the arrangements .
Hunter Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.
