Dewayne O'Neil Smith

Dewayne O’Neil Smith, age 31, of Lakemont, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025. He was born on February 19, 1994, in Stephens County to Destry and Terry Smith.

Dewayne loved the outdoors and even took a job at a nature facility in Highlands, North Carolina, just so he could spend his days surrounded by the beauty of nature. He also found great joy in the culinary arts, working as a sous chef in several restaurants where he shared his passion for good food. Known for his comical personality and infectious sense of humor, Dewayne could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Above all, he deeply loved his family—especially his nieces and nephews—but his world revolved around his girlfriend, Samantha, and her son, Colton, whom he proudly claimed as his own.

He is survived by his parents, Destry and Terry Smith; his girlfriend, Samantha Motes, and their son, Colton; sisters, Jamie Smith and Kayla Smith (Kyle Keener); and nieces and nephews, Kaia Hopper, Samuel Hopper, Alana Smith, Katie Hopper, Myles Smith, and Miya Smith. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Persimmon Baptist Church. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Flowers may be delivered to the church.
