Mrs. Elaine Smith Dickens, age 79, of Gainesville, formerly of Winder, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 30, 2024, surrounded by her family at Lanier Village Estates.
Mrs. Dickens was a 1963 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. Throughout her life, she was a devoted homemaker taking great pride in caring for the wellbeing of her friends and family. Elaine was involved in numerous charitable organizations serving as the President of the Florida State Medical Auxiliary while her husband practiced medicine in Sarasota, Florida. She was also very active in the Daughters of American Revolution where she served as the Regent of the Sunberry Chapter of Winder. During Jack and Elaine’s retirement, they enjoyed living on Lake Rabun and being involved with the Lake Rabun Association, particularly, the Lake Rabun tour of home events. Mrs. Dickens will be remembered best as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Mrs. Dickens was preceded in death by her parents, George Watson Smith and Katherine Jones Smith.
Mrs. Dickens is survived by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Dr. Jack Dickens of Gainesville, formerly of Winder; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Dickens (Todd) Harding of Chattanooga, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Jackson (Jenni) Dickens Jr. of Fort Mill, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Smith (Erskine) Wells of Madison, MS; and five grandchildren, Emmi (Reese) Walker, Alex (Julia) Harding, Christopher Harding, Jack Dickens, and Kat Dickens.
The graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Elaine Dickens will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winder with Rev. Don Aldin officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday evening, October 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7: 30 PM at Carter Funeral Home.
The family respectfully request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
