Hubert Phillips

Hubert J. Phillips, Sr., 77, of Westminster, South Carolina., died Wednesday October 1, 2014 at home in Westminster. He was the widower of Wilhelmina Justus Phillips, who died May 28, 2014.

Born in Oconee County, South Carolina., January 31, 1937 he was the son of the late George Johnson Phillips and Mandy Lee Phillips. He was a logger in the lumber industry and was a member of the Old Liberty Baptist Church.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla Cantrell and by two sisters, Rosalee Hinson and Louise Hinson, and is survived by two sons, Hubert J. Phillips, Jr., (Robbie) of Westminster, SC., and David A. Phillips (Crystal) of Pickens, SC., five daughters, Amanda Phillips of Westminster, SC., Angelia Owens (Lee) of Westminster, SC., Sandra Pierce (Adam) of Seneca, SC., Shirley Moore of Westminster, SC., and Deborah Bridges (Stanley) of Pendleton, SC. Two brothers, Henry Phillips and L.B. Phillips of Westminster, SC., and one sister, Mary Turpin of Westminster. Sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday October 3, 2014 at the Blue Heights Baptist Church, Mountain City, Georgia., with Rev. Alvin Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in Rabun Memory Park.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be taken to the home of his son, Hubert J. Phillips., Jr., at 221 Serenity Drive, Westminster, SC., after 1:00 P.M. Thursday October 2, 2014. The body will be in state there until 11:00 A.M. Friday and will be taken to Blue Heights Baptist Church in Mountain City, Georgia at 12:00 noon where visitation will be from noon to 2:00 P.M. (The Funeral Hour).
