Jimmy Wheeler

Jimmy Wheeler, age 84, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with his family by his side.

He was born on August 10, 1941, to the late Jim Wheeler and Eula Mae Nations Wheeler. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane McKay Wheeler.

Jimmy loved spending time outdoors, whether camping, riding motorcycles, or, especially, horseback riding. He was a talented mechanic who could fix just about anything and enjoyed carving walking canes in his spare time.

Jimmy's greatest passion in life was helping others. After his time in law enforcement, he found his true calling in emergency medical services. In the early 1970s, he helped establish the EMS program in Habersham County and faithfully served as EMS Director for more than 25 years. Through his dedication and leadership, he touched countless lives and made a lasting impact on his community.

In addition to his wife, Diane, Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Tammy Wheeler and her husband, Tim; his grandchildren, Calli Holloway and her husband, Will, and Cameron Crawford; his siblings, Maeverie English and her husband, Wayne, Patsy Roberts and her husband, Claude, Henry Wheeler, Chester Wheeler and his wife, Debra, and Skip Wheeler and his wife, Sandy; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Battle Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Cale Stancil officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.

A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Family Cemetery.
