Jowen Hipps

Jowen Hayes Hipps, 77, of Sylva, North Carolina., formerly of Rabun County, died Sunday August 17, 2014 in Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, North Carolina.

Born in Macon County, North Carolina., October 6, 1936 he was the son of the late Gordon Hayes Hipps and Mattie Marie Rogers Hipps. He was the widower of Evie Ann Butler Hipps. He was a welder by trade and was of the Baptist Faith.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Una Jean Shirley and Eileen Hipps Ramey and is survived by a daughter, Jodie Marie Hipps Marr of Sylva, NC. A brother, Palmer W. Hipps of Utica, Michigan., Three sisters; Gerleen Hipps McCracken Taylor of Lakemont, GA., Jacquelyn Hipps Welch of Lakemont, GA., and Carmella Hipps Cannon of Wiley, GA. Two grandchildren, Elizabeth Rebecca Marr and Gwendolyn Loretta Marr. Several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday August 22, 2014 at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Rabun Memory Park Tiger, Georgia.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends Thursday August 21, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. The family is at their respective residences.
