Larry Howard Ginsberg, age 86, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026. He was the son of the late Al and Vivian Ginsberg.
Born in Des Moines in 1939, and a 1957 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Larry built a life defined by professional integrity and a deep commitment to his community. After graduating from the University of Virginia’s Graduate School of Consumer Banking in 1977, he embarked on a distinguished career in finance, serving as a vice president and officer for several major Florida banks. While he excelled in the financial sector, he always fondly remembered his early years as a veterinary assistant at the Crandon Park Zoo, on Key Biscayne where he worked closely with wild animals.
A dedicated educator and civic leader, Larry taught "Personal Money Management" for many years and served as an adjunct instructor at Miami Dade Community College for nearly two decades. His leadership extended to the City of Miami’s planning committee and the President of The South Florida Aquarium Society. A proud and active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks since 1992, he eventually rose to the rank of Exalted Ruler and Trustee of the Gainesville Lodge.
Larry was a man of immense resilience, famously documented in his experience during Hurricane Andrew. Though his own home was severely damaged, he spent the weeks following the storm feeding displaced animals and providing the only working telephone in the neighborhood to those in need. An adventurous traveler, Larry found great joy in the world's natural beauty, from the Amazon River to the glaciers of Alaska and the hills of Scotland.
He is survived by his children: Julie (Monty) Wynn, Kimberly (John) Orlando, and Lee (Angela) Ginsberg; and his stepchildren: Cheryl Baker, Dan Baker, Lori Peddle, and Tracy Sloan. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Kristin (David) Brito, Daphne (Trey) Hardin, Ellie (Corey) Bounds, Laura (Jose) Orlando, Joshua (Jessica) Ginsberg, Justin (Alyssa) Orlando, Deanna (Donovan) Orlando, Laura Marshe, Joshua Hardin, Jayce Ginsberg, and Hunter Ginsberg; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marsha Crowell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three spouses: Marcia “Baker” Ginsberg, Barbara “Davis” Ginsberg, and Jenny “Doty” Ginsberg; and his stepson, Mark Baker.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
Burial will take place on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Miami Memorial Park, located at 6200 SW 77th Avenue, Miami, FL 33143.
