Lloyd Hunter

William Lloyd Hunter, 93, entered into his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at his home on Warwoman Road.

Born on August 14, 1928 in Tiger, GA, he was the son of the late Robert Edgar Hunter and Bessie Cora Carnes Hunter. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65+ years, Helen Cannon Hunter, his brothers, Doyce Hunter and Robert Hunter and his sisters, Vera Craig, Millie Rholetter and Patricia Fisher.

Lloyd is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Kowalski (Mike) and Patty Vining (David) and a granddaughter Sam Zink (Brad) and by sisters, Jerry Freeman, Helen Dickson and Betty Burton.

Lloyd was a devout Christian and a long-standing member of the Clayton Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a member of The Gideons International.

Lloyd was a United States Army veteran and was a member of the VFW Post 4570 and American Legion Post 220, where he was post president. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 265.

Lloyd served his beloved community as owner and director of Hunter Funeral Home for 65+ years and is revered for the love and respect with which provided his services. He was a member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association for years and also a member of the National Funeral Directors Association for 50+.

Lloyd was elected Coroner of Rabun County for 13 consecutive terms and served that office for 52 years. He holds the record as the longest consecutively serving elected official in the state of Georgia.

Visitation will be held at Battle Branch Baptist Church on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, with funeral services held at 3:00pm with Pastor James E Turpen, Chaplin John Reeser and Rev. Kenneth Franklin officiating, followed by graveside services at Clayton Cemetery with full military honors, conducted by Rabun and Habersham DAV. the family ask in Lieu of flowers Memorials may be made in his memory to the Rabun County Gideons International Po Box 241 Clayton,Georgia 30525

The family is at their respective residences.
