Mary Mertis Garrett

Mary Mertis Crone Garrett, 81, of the Timpson Creek community died at her home with her family at her side December 6, 2015.

She was born in Clayton, Georgia , November 4, 1934 to Claude and Viola Welborn Crone. She is the widow of Avery Conney Garrett and was a lifelong resident of Rabun County.

Mary worked at Clayburne Manufacturing for 13 years, then at Burlington Industries until she retired to take care of her Mother and Dad at home. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 40 years.

She is the last member of her immediate family and is survived by her only son Roy Lee Garrett (Lil), her only grandson, Shane Garrett and her only great grandchild, Karson Garrett, who nicknamed Mary “Mamie” as a child, and Mary was affectionately known as “Mamie” the rest of her life. She is also survived by two special friends of hers, Casey and Annabell.

The family is at her home on Hwy. 76 W. Clayton,Ga. and the family will receive friends at Hunter Funeral Home Wednesday, December 9th from 6 to 8 pm.

Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home Thursday, December 10th at 11:00am,with Rev. Steve York officiating.

Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery following the service
