Miles Smith

Miles O’Neil Smith, 77, of Lakemont, GA., died Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Nancy Ann Gordon Smith.

Born November 4, 1940, he was the son of the late William Jesse Smith and Annie Maude Jones-Smith. He was a self employed heavy equipment operator and was a US Navy veteran during the Vietnam Era for fifteen years, and worked for the Rabun County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy for several years. He was of the baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, William and Annie Smith and his wife, Nancy Gordon Smith, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Garland Smith, Garfield Smith, Garth Smith, and Sandy Smith, and by three sisters, Margie Chappell, Lorraine Carpenter and Barbara Dotson. He is survived by a son, Destry Smith (Terry) of Clayton, GA, and two daughters, Carol Smith Harvey (Steve) of Clayton, GA, and Marcey Smith Craine (Greg) of Clayton, GA, and by three sisters, Carol Pickens of Clayton, GA, Ellaine Chappell of Cleveland, GA, and Evelyn Scarnato of Pennsylvania. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survived.

The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be Saturday May 19, 2018 at 2:00PM at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Reverend Joe McCrackin officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday May 19, 2018 at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home from1:00PM to 2:00PM (the service hour).

The family is at their respective residences.
