Noah Melvin Speed, age 87, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on March 19, 1939, in Rabun County and was the son of the late Marlor Speed and Amanda Norton Speed. He is survived by his loving wife, Mattie McDowell Speed.

Noah loved to garden and spend time outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed making moonshine. He was a skilled carpenter and an avid deer hunter. In his later years, nothing brought him more joy than handing out pictures of Jesus that had been drawn by his best friend. Above all, Noah loved his family and the Lord with all his heart.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie McDowell Speed; two daughters, Frankie Owens (Gene) and Amanda Chastain (Wayne); two daughters-in-love, Leta Dunlap and Melba Justus; a nephew who was more like a son, Mark Speed; 17 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Bessie Nesbitt and Jo Dunlap; one son, Donnie Dunlap; one great-grandson, Noah Owens; one sister, Bernece; and five brothers, Milton, Marlor, J.P., Don, and Neb.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Hale Ridge Cemetery.
