Rachel B. Davis, age 76, of Dillard, GA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 3, 2025, with her family by her side.
Born on July 23, 1949, in Rabun County, GA, she was the daughter of Harry Gassoway and Estelle (Youngblood) Brown. Rachel was a graduate of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee High School, Class of 1967. Her high school guidance counselor recommended her for a position as a secretary in Atlanta, and Rachel, determined to pursue the opportunity, hitched a ride with her preacher to begin a career with the State of Georgia. She later earned her bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in accountancy from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Following her marriage to Douglas Alan Davis in 1980, Rachel became a devoted mother of two while continuing her career. She and Alan, who also worked for the State of Georgia, made their home in Lilburn, GA, where they raised their family and lived for 30 years.
Rachel was a humble, intelligent woman who was incredibly proud of her children and deeply loved her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, especially fond of romance novels by Danielle Steele. Some of her fondest memories came during retirement, when she and Alan enjoyed traveling extensively across the United States and abroad for nearly a decade before Rachel became paralyzed.
Rachel will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of others before her own.
She is survived by her children, Philip (Kerri) Davis and Angela (Lee) Ginsberg; her six grandchildren, Kain, Kara, Kylee, Jayce, Hunter, and Kelsey; her siblings, Rebecca (Jerry) Cope, Judy (Jerry) Plant, Benny (Dorothy) Brown, Danny (Lisa) Brown, and William Brown; and her brothers-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Davis and Darrell (Denise) Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Alan Davis of Albany, GA; her parents, Harry Brown Jr. and Estelle Brown of Dillard, GA; and her niece, Rachael Brown.
A Funeral Service for Rachel Davis will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Hunter Funeral Home, 423 Warwoman Road, Clayton, GA 30525. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastors Ross Wheeler and Doug Volk. Burial will follow at Wesley Memorial Cemetery in Rabun Gap, GA.
