Roger L. Mullins, age 89, of Tiger, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, after a three-year battle with cancer.
He was born on March 29, 1936, in Harlan County, Kentucky and grew up in a coal mining camp with hardworking parents and five brothers and sisters. At the age of ten, he held three jobs: janitor of the five-room schoolhouse, paperboy for the local route, and coal deliveryman for the elderly residents of the camp. After high school, Roger spent four years in the Airforce primarily as a jet mechanic instructor on the F86 Sabre Jet, which was comparable to the Russian Mig at that time. Upon his honorable discharge from the Airforce, he attended junior college in Orlando and then, with his wife and two children, completed his education at the University of Florida. He was in his early thirties when he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. The Mullins family lived in Dalton, Georgia for 29 years before retiring and moving to Tiger, Georgia. He was a member of Clayton First United Methodist Church. Throughout his life, Roger believed in treating people, regardless of income or social status, fairly and with respect.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mabel Leger Mullins; sisters, Billie Ruth Long and Faye Simpson; and brothers, Mac Mullins and Van Ray Mullins.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly Taylor Mullins; son, Mark Mullins; daughter, Michelle Maioli (Mat); grandsons: Brayden, Blake, and Robert; great-granddaughter RaeLynn; and sister, Donna Alligood.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Pastor Don Landen officiating.
