Roland R. Wilborn, 85, of Dillard, Georgia., died Wednesday July 29, at Charles George VA. Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
He was born November 11, 1929 in Section, Alabama., to the late Carl and Alta Galloway Wilborn. Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 and retired as PSG. Officer after 20 years of service. He spent more than a year in Korea taking a discharge after returning in 1952 and reenlisting til retirement.
After retirement he served as a deputy sheriff under the sheriff Chester York and later as a police officer with the Clayton police department. He retired from police work an worked for a long time in his wood working shop. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 15 of Rabun and Habersham counties and a member of the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Jim Wilborn., and is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Donna Grist Wilborn, a daughter and son-in-law, Frenda and Vernon Moore of Toccoa, GA., two sisters, Verna Long and Clara Wilborn of Section, AL., a grandson, Geromy Lanich (Nicole) of Greenville, SC., and two great grandsons, Grayson and Joe and nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services will be at graveside Monday August 3, 2015 11:00 A.M. at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Rev. Allan Pierce and layman Lloyd Hunter will conduct the service.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and the family is at the home on Rush Grist Lane in Dillard, GA. No formal visitation will be held.
