Shirley Whitmire

Shirley Martin Whitmire, 78, of Tiger, GA, died Sunday September 30, 2018 at the home of her son, Mitch Whitmire in Lakemont, GA.

Born in Rockmart, GA, December 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Sheriffield and Ivie Jones Martin. She had lived most of her life in Rabun County. She was the widow of Charles Leslie Whitmire. 
Shirley was retired from Sangamo Weston Company as manufacturing electrical parts she volunteered as vice president at sharing and caring for 17 years and was a member of Sheltering Arms Gospel Tabernacle of Clayton, GA. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Sheriffield and Ivie Jones Martin and by her husband, Les Whitmire also by three brothers, Cecil Martin, Bonnie Martin and Ed Martin, and is survived by two sons, Mitch Whitmire (Gail) of Lakemont, GA, Shane Whitmire of Tiger, GA, one step-son, Sparky Whitmire of Clayton, GA, one step-daughter, Kay York of Clayton, GA, one brother, Earl Martin of Hartwell, GA, two grandsons, Jason Whitmire and Cody Whitmire. Six great grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Wolffork Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Manus officiating. Interment will be in the Wolffork Cemetery.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be placed in the Wolffork Baptist Church, Wednesday October 3, 2018 for visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00pm (the funeral hour). The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Gail Whitmire on Heritage Lane, Lakemont, GA.
