Steve Carlton York

Steve Carlton York, age 71, of Tiger, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Born on June 23, 1954, in Clayton, he was the son of the late Thomas Fulton York and Vassie Mae English York. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Christine Britt.

Steve was a man of strong faith who dedicated much of his life to serving others. He formerly served as the pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, where he faithfully shared the Word of God and ministered to his congregation and community. Steve especially enjoyed fellowshipping with others, witnessing, and spreading the Gospel to anyone he met. He owned and operated Blue Ridge Boat Works, where he became well known for building and restoring antique and classic boats. Steve also served his community as a volunteer firefighter with Lakes Fire and Rescue, always willing to step forward to help others in times of need. Above all, Steve will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Vanessa York; son, Steve Weston York; daughters: Sara Taylor (Matt), Leah Zarate, and Emma York Marzolf (Nick); grandchildren: Mallory Smith (Dylan), Christian Christy, Aubree Whitmire, Alice Zarate, Logan Zarate, Mason Chambley, Rileigh Bridges, Molly Anna York, and Weston York; brothers: John York (Sue), Felix York, and Dudley York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Kilby officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
