Thomas "Sparkie" Whitmire

Thomas “Sparkie” Whitmire, age 69, of Clayton, GA, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Sparkie was born on May 14, 1957, in Franklin, North Carolina, and was the son of the late Charles L. Whitmire and Betty Sue Gragg Dickerson.

He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed playing baseball and listening to music, especially songs from the ’70s and ’80s. Sparkie had an incredible love and knowledge of music; you could play him just a short clip of a song, and he could tell you who sang it. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone he met. Over the years, Sparkie worked at Don’s Service Station and Walmart, where he spent several years.

He is survived by three children, Tonya Parsons, Rebecca Gibson (Joey), and Stephanie Carter; grandchildren, Braxton Gibson, Braden Gibson, Sahara Gibson, Malachi Carter, and Atlantis Carter; one sister, Kay York; one brother, Mitch Whitmire; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be announced once arrangements are available.
