William (Paul) Hynish

February 27, 1930 — February 17, 2016

William Paul Hynish (Paul), 85, of Clayton, Georgia, died Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Saint Helena Catholic Church in
Clayton with both Father Pedro Polache and Bishop John Erbelding of the Chapel of Sky Valley,
as Paul was an active member of both congregations.
Paul was born on November 4, 1930 to Catherine Hynish and Forrest Webb in Gettysburg,
South Dakota. Soon after, he moved to Pocohontas, Iowa and was blessed to be raised in his
extended family surrounded by grandparents, his mom, loving siblings, and a close community.
Paul spent his teenage years attending Loras Academy living in East Dubuque, Illinois, and later
became a United States Marine, training for a year in Memphis, Tennessee, and serving his
country proudly as a jet mechanic in Korea during the Korean war. Upon returning stateside,
Paul served in the Reserves, spending time in San Diego, California. Paul loved life and loved
to see others enjoying themselves. He chose to work as a bartender, living and meeting new
people in many places including Saint Petersburg Beach, Florida, Palos Verdes, California,
Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and Atlanta, Georgia, before retiring to the small community of Clayton.
Among the many highlights of a life well lived are his three children and his marriage to his wife,
Laura, on June 25, 1970. Although Paul enjoyed adventure, such as traveling all over the US in
a motor home, he also enjoyed the almost 30 years he spent as bar manager at the Ansley Golf
Club and the lasting friendships he made there.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Laura, his son Daniel and daughterinlaw
Terie Hynish, his daughter Deborah and soninlaw
Dallam Hart, and his many grandchildren:
Luke, Eva, Allie, Timothy, Caitlyn, Brieanna, Megan, Erin, and cherished neighbor, Carla
Walker, who was like another granddaughter. He is also survived by many cousins including
Susan and Larry Warren, Tom and Julie Davies, David Davies, Mary Pat Dyer, Diane Chevalier,
Danielle and Dean, Lauren, Ashley, Brooke, London, Justin, and Jayden, and lifelong
friend, Chris Hendell, whom he loved like a daughter. Paul was preceded in death by his
grandparents, Louise Agatha and Paul Gustav, his mother Catherine, his aunts who were like
sisters: Ruth, Helen, Mary, Angela, and Joan, and his uncles who were like brothers: Paul and
Harold. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Hynish, son in law, Jim
Fitzgerald, brother in law, Robert J. “Bob” Dyer, and second cousins Robert P.“Bobby” Dyer and
